The Importance of a Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness
A holistic approach to health and wellness recognizes the essential connection between the four dimensional parts of the human body: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It considers the whole person and his or her interactions with the environment.
There is no “one size fits all” since we are all born with unique traits and characteristics that helps us shine and thrive to live the life we imagined. Therefore, the analysis of each person’s genetic makeup along with nutritional imbalances and lifestyle habits are the most valuable tools to determine the root causes of multiple health issues such as inflammation, depressed immune system, chronic fatigue, brain fog, headaches, insomnia, mood disorders, hormone imbalances, digestive issues (bloating, heartburn), intestinal permeability (leaky gut), allergies, autoimmune diseases, insulin resistance, blood sugar imbalances (hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia), weight gain or weight loss, high blood pressure, high oxidized cholesterol, atherosclerosis, arthritis, fatty liver, and reproductive conditions (PCOS, infertility, PMS).
Several factors are important when assessing nutritional imbalances: quality and nutritional value of the foods we eat, adequate digestion, healthy gut flora (good bacteria), absorption of nutrients, and proper elimination of metabolic residues. Mental and emotional factors are also important such as levels of stress, our perceptions of the surrounding environment, and our thoughts and beliefs. Environmental pollution and heavy metal toxicity exposure can also contribute to the development of several health imbalances.
